How did Perinatal Professionals get started?

Perinatal Professionals was started by a team of highly experienced and educated doulas who spent years as trainers, and wanted to find a way to address many of the issues our students were facing going through traditional training models. We knew there would be a way to approach birthwork that was more sustainable and better served the families we support. Learn more about our roots and our team on our ABOUT page.

We have some big goals and they are served by both a for-profit and a non-profit approach which is why our goals include a separate non-profit entity we are aiming to launch in 2027.

Yep! If you have products or services related to our work and would like to offer something to our members, or have an interest in speaking at future events, webinars, conferences, or anything else that you think would benefit the community, we’re happy to connect!

Our goals are big and our growth is rapid! We are currently in a strategizing phase to map out our future needs and will eventually need quite a large staff. If you have interest and skills in social media, support staff, research, insurance, legislative work, etc. and would like us to reach out when we’re ready please let us know via email.

Do you like to teach, speak, write, network? We’d love to hear about your talents and interests. It takes many hands and minds to achieve visions like ours and we’d love to have your help!

Do you train doulas and perinatal educators?

Perinatal Professionals does not provide doula trainings as one of our main visions is keeping training independent of certification. We know how important it is for you to find trusted, qualified trainers that meet our certification requirements, so we do have a list of vetted and approved trainers to make it easy. You may still train elsewhere with a standard organization if you have your own preference.

DONA, CAPPA, ProDoula, Birth Boot Camp, and ICEA. Reach out to confirm other trainers before applying. Standard orgs must teach at least 18 hours live, and teach the same standards and topics we require.

We offer Full Certification for new doulas or educators that haven’t certified before, Cross Certification for those currently certified with another standard organization, and Re-certification for those about to expire from their standard organization. A full cert/re-cert is good for 3 years so long as you stay an active member of our association. Cross cert matches your current expiration.

$65 annually for membership in our association. $125 for a 3+ year Full Certification, $35 for Cross Certification which matches your current expiration, and $75 for Re-certification which is good for 3 years.

We heard our students and their frustration trying to get the needed client evaluations and reading a stack of books in order to certify. So, we decided to just… not do it that way. Cert Points are our own special approach to enhancing your learning after training without the awkward evals and busy work you have to do elsewhere. Each activity is worth 5-10 points depending on the expected difficulty and time it will take. They are meant to be challenging but fun, and you get to choose which you want to complete! Examples: interview a labor and delivery nurse about their interactions with doulas; watch a movie that depicts a postpartum family and summarize; create an infographic marketing your services to your target demographic.
